Volunteer Opportunities

Ongoing Volunteering:

1. Bryan County Youth Shelter- Volunteers needed to spend time with the children in the shelter. Afternoons or nights are great, weekends even better. You will need to fill out an application and have an OSBI background check. $36.00 cost to the volunteer. Stanley Hopkins Director, 580-924-6263

2 Meals on Wheels- Deliver noon meals to a senior citizen in Durant. Call Marla Yandell, 916-1917

3. Families Feeding Families-  1) need 2 or 3 people to cook, have 8 days throughout the month that need cooks scheduled. 2) Need someone to run the dishwasher on a regular basis & someone to put the dishes away when they come out, time required: 4:30 till 6:15 At our Hope Chest, clothes closet, we need people to sort through clothes Monday and Thursday throughout the month, 4 to 7 people needed. This position offers a lot of flexibility and is really needed. Need people throughout  the week to learn & work at the front at the Hope Chest. 3 to 5 hours weekly Call Tish Burkhalter, 580-2309142

4. Red River Special Olympics- March, Area Track & Field Event, volunteers needed to be one on one with all ages of Special Olympics Athletes at the Multi-Sports Complex. These athletes need someone to be sure they get to each event in which they are entered as well to be with them all or part of the day, giving their teachers a break! Volunteers needed to registar schools as they arrive. September, Medical volunteers are needed to complete physicals for athletes. There are various parties, bowling tournaments, and fundraisers they do during the year that they need volunteers. Call Steve Remshardt, 931-7265

5. CASA ( Court Appointed Special Advocate) - CASA needs volunteers desparetly to advocate for abused children. You will be screened and trained by the local CASA program staff. 10 to 15 hours a month is usual volunteer time involved.  Call Carolyn, 924-6164

6.St Catherine's Food Bank needs volunteers:
   The second Tuesdays of every month:
   Tuesday, Feb.9,    11:00 - 1:00  unloading and stacking groceries
   Tuesday, March 9, 11:00 - 1:00  unloading and stacking groceries
   Tuesday, April 13,  11:00 - 1:00    "             "         "             "
   Tuesday, May 11,  11:00 - 1:00     "            "         "             "   ......
 
       Every 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH Wednesday  mornings
          9:00- 12:00
to bag groceries  (300 bags)

7. Sheltered Work Opportunities- Skill sets that are needed: Financial, Marketing, Fund Raising, Grant Writing, and Legal. Call Sandy Rosier, 924-8509

8 RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program)-  Loaves and Fishes Pantry(Monday or Friday 1:00 - 3:00pm) Call Sheila, 924-3659
